Throughout the ages, gay and lesbian people of every race and ancestry have had their histories stolen from them by homophobia. While other children read, in their history books, about great American heroes, gay and lesbian youth are denied the pride and comfort of being seen as a part of a community.
We want everyone to understand that many of those great heroes you read about in your history books were, in fact, your gay and lesbian ancestors. While most of us do not have family members who are gay or lesbian, we all nonetheless have a shared history; a community that transcends age, race, creed, or nationality. It's time everyone had a chance to learn about that.
On May 9th, some of the greatest heroes of our generation will be assembling in West Hollywood to teach our community about that shared history. Those heroes, scholars, and public figures will weave together the strands of time from the last 75 years to create a tapestry. You will be armed with the pride, and comfort of knowing that this community has contributed some of the greatest accomplishments of the last century.
